HOT WATER HEATER: Similar to refrigerators, consider replacing your water heater if more than 10 years old. Older water heaters can rust, collect sand and sediment in the bottom, and are also costing you 15% of your household’s energy dollars. The energy efficiency of a water heater is measured in Energy Factor or (EF). The larger the number of EF, the more efficient the water heater is. For even greater efficiency consider buying a tankless water heater.
FURNACE: Global warming is caused by the harmful greenhouse gases that emits from your home furnace. The furnace contributes to the largest portion of your energy bill. Before you replace your current furnace look at the rest of your home’s sources for leaking air sources and fix them first. Make sure the windows in your home are tightly sealed and doors don’t have air leaks around the perimeter. The insulation in your home should also be reviewed.
